Marie Williams, Vice President for Human Resources at Brown University, Receives CUPA-HR’s Donald E. Dickason Award

Marie Williams, vice president for human resources at Brown University, has been selected to receive the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR) 2022 Donald E. Dickason Award. This award, named for the association’s founder, is CUPA-HR’s highest honor, recognizing an individual for exceptional leadership and service to CUPA-HR. Thanks to the generous support of TIAA, CUPA-HR is pleased to offer an $8,000 contribution to Brown University’s endowment or a scholarship fund of Williams’ choice.

Williams, a long-time member of CUPA-HR, began her leadership trajectory in 2013 as a participant in the Emerging CUPA-HR Leaders Program, for which she later served as a program chair. Soon after, Williams became a member of the CUPA-HR board of directors, where she served for six years. As chair of the board in 2019-20, she helped lead the association and the profession through the initial impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. While on the board, Williams also served on several CUPA-HR committees, including the Public Policy Committee, Executive Committee, National Awards Committee, Budget and Finance Committee, and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee.

“I can think of only a handful of other CUPA-HR members that have had such a significant impact on the association – especially in the last eight years,” says Mark Coldren, associate vice president of human resources at the University at Buffalo, State University of New York and previous recipient of the Donald E. Dickason Award. “Marie’s passion and intelligence elevates everyone around her.”
